Sunday

after the boys of summer have gone

Today, as I was enjoying 70 degrees and gorgeous sun, driving with the windows down and  working in the yard, I said my goodbyes to Summer.  I actually laid down in the yard, whole body flat against the earth, staring up at the sky, inhaling the cool autumn air.
We have a tumultuous relationship Summer and I. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the growing season of course but I detest the heat and humidity that go along with it.  In general, Summer is my least favorite time of year.

I hate the fear of being sunburned when I walk down to the mailbox.  I hate sound of the cicadas.  They only succeed in making me feel even hotter.   I can't stand the fact that it's blazing miserable hot and sweaty at 8 o'clock in the morning.   I hate the thousand degree oven that awaits you when you return to your car in the parking lot .
The cool relief of crisp autumn days is very much welcomed in my life. The sound of wind rustling in the trees soothes my scorched soul.  See ya Blazing Ball of Fire!

However, I could be persuaded  to speak a few kind words about the hottest of all seasons.  Childhood memories of late night neighborhood games and trips to the beach keep me from voting Summer out of the seasonal rotation all together.  I recently read THIS BLOG POST which I think says it best. and when someone says it better than you, by all means, share it.
