Watched a great movie last night La vie en rose. Marion Cotillard was such an amazing actress! I was so sucked in by the movie that I've been listening to my Edith Piaf Cd's while running errands on this frigid day.
I knew very little of Edith before watching the movie. I had no idea her story was so sad. She was abandoned by her mother and shuffled around amongst various adults in her family. As a child, she was blind for about four years due to illness. She had only one child who dies at two from meningitis. She became dependant on drugs and alcohol and died at a relatively young age from liver failure.
Her tragic story really changes the aesthetic of her music. She so soulfully expresses her emotions in her voice, facial expressions and hand movements.
