life's a bitch

Life has been happening.  I'm so busy it's not even funny.  Really not funny.
Really.
This is a person who relishes her down time and she hasn't seen much lately.
In addition to numerous ceramics endeavors, I'm working on my SCAD application for graduate school.  And, of course, I still have a full time job that I have to do.  I'm trying to take a day off here and there without seeming too suspicious in the eyes of "the man", but it's not that easy.  They give you sick days that accumulate but they still want to able to dictate how they are used.
Damn the man!

Anywho.  So today was a major setback.  I had a kiln load of mostly mugs and a few bowls that I was bisque firing and something went wrong.  It's my fault really.  I fired on Friday the 13th.  I've never been suspicious of this  particular  date but I am now!  I will forever respect its power!

Basically, what happened was that the kiln over fired.  Meaning it went waaaaaayy beyond the temperature it was supposed to go to.  It fired so hot that the 04 cone melted ( fused) to the cone setter and some of the shelves and posts even warped.  Resulting in a bunch of vitrified pots that cannot be glazed.  Ruined.

That, my friend, is what a melted cone looks like.

warped shelves

warped post

Sigh......

Trying to make a living here Kiln Gods!! If you could cut me some slack I'd greatly appreciate it!

Edit:
I went to Atlanta Clay on Saturday to get some new shelves and posts.  I ran into an art teacher friend and she told me the same thing had happened to her last week!   Only she wasn't so lucky.  The shelves, posts, and pots all melted into a big pile at the bottom of the kiln.  Her kiln is not salvageable.
I guess the kiln gods were having a bad week.
