Art is not what you see but what you make others see. Edgar Degas

musings

I went out into the garden this evening to check on things after the big storms rolled through today and yesterday. No major damage; just a few toppled plants.  As I moved through the yard, a most fantastic smell overcame my senses.
Honeysuckle.
Oh man, it smells so good! It permeates the air.  The scent floats across the yard.  As I focused on the aromatic ambiance, I noticed other scents.
The dianthus.
The rose.
jasmine.
rosemary
sage
freshly cut grass
wild onions
air warmed by the sun

Just standing there for an entire minute or two, I closed my eyes,  focusing on only the scents.
deep.
cleansing
breaths.
it's a meditative state really.

Don't you think the smell is just for us?  for humans, I mean?
Because not all flowers smell.  So, if flowers smelled good because of birds and bees and pollination and all that, then wouldn't ALL flowers have a delicious scent?  but they don't.  Not all of them.
Or, do they just seeeeeeemm to be scentless....because only we, us humans, don't detect anything?

Just curious.
Just wondering.
Always pondering.
