On Saturday, we made the yearly trip to Watkinsville for the annual PERSPECTIVES pottery sale.
Since we moved from Athens, I drive back once a year to see the show and have a meal at the GRIT.
For a while I would take a new person with me but my cousin seems to enjoy it the most so she's gone with me for a couple of years now.
That's her perusing the pots of ALLYA MACDONALD.
The pottery sale is set up in the old gym. OCAF is on the grounds of an old school which now houses pottery studios and galleries.
Look at all of the pots!! Hence my nickname "pottery mecca".
You can almost here the angels singing...AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
My friend ERIK HAAGENSEN selling his narrative wares.
Did I mention there was no air conditioning in the gym?
Luckily they have really really big fans set up to provide respite from the heat and great photo ops.
Some of my favorite potters:
Becky Strickland
Katy MacDougal
Lora Rust
Ted Saupe
Roger Jameson
Allya MacDonald
Kelly King
I was able to narrow down from five initial choices to my two faves. I try to purchase from a new potter every year so that helps in the decision making...."well, I already have one of her cups..."
That's a Nancy Green bowl in the volunteer's hand and one of Deborah Adornato's cups.
We then headed over to THE GLOBE to quench our thirst.
Boddingtons for Lo and a TERRAPIN RYE for me. Which incidentally is a local beer.
We had dinner at the Grit. Best damn tofu in the entire southeast.
The Grit is a vegetarian restaurant but everything is so delicious and hearty that you really don't notice the lack of meat.
Well, I don't anyway. Hahaha.
Well, I don't anyway. Hahaha.
Behold.
My reward for driving an hour and a half.
My reward for driving an hour and a half.
Tofu, homemade mac n cheese, and steamed broccoli with peanut sauce.
Lo's killer grilled cheese.
and to prove that I was there
Turns out I chose a perfect bowl.
My morning fruit was even more scrumptious.
A great day.
Some great pots.
Some even greater food.
And good company.
Until next year......
